Questions, Answered

Does this replace Roll20 or Foundry?+
No — it complements them. Use Roll20 or Foundry for combat maps and grid movement. Use Overlord for everything else: roleplay, checks, NPC interactions, loot, quests, and session management. Combat on Roll20, roleplay on Overlord.
What does it cost?+
Free during beta. Full feature access, no credit card. We will announce pricing before leaving beta with plenty of notice.
Do players need to sign in?+
No. Players interact entirely through Discord — roll checks, manage inventory, and view character sheets without ever leaving the channel. Only the DM needs the web dashboard for uploads.
How are rolls handled?+
The DM calls for a check and the bot posts roll buttons with each player's personal modifiers. One click, instant result. Advantage, proficiency, and conditions are applied automatically.
Where is my data stored?+
Campaign state is stored in a managed Postgres database. Asset files are stored in Cloudflare R2. You can export or delete all your data at any time.
Can I use Spotify or YouTube for session music?+
Yes — playlists can mix uploaded sound cues, Spotify tracks/playlists, and YouTube videos. Uploaded cues stream directly through the bot into your voice channel. Spotify and YouTube tracks post as rich link embeds — players click to open in their own Spotify / YouTube app. We don't rebroadcast Spotify or YouTube audio ourselves because both platforms' terms forbid it (this is why the Groovy and Rythm bots were shut down). Link embeds keep you legal and still give everyone one-click access to the track.
Can I self-host?+
Not yet — we're focused on the hosted product during beta. A self-hosted version is on the roadmap for teams that need it.
